So we finally decided to move our large frogspawn colony out from under a gigantic leather today. The leather just kept growing and growing and was finally just putting the frogspawn in too much shade.
Now, I had always wondered how the leather dealt with all the stinging from the frogspawn, but it never seemed to be an issue. Well, today, we discovered that not only was the leather immune to the frogspawn's stinging, but it was literally engulfing and growing on the frogspawn! We had to break the branch that was inside off and it now hangs in the water suspended by the leather.
The heads that are only partially engulfed by the leather are still alive and doing well. When you feel the leather, you can actually feel the whole rigid pieces of frogspawn lodged inside!!
I wish I'd taken before and after shots, but I had no idea this is what we would find. The large frogspawn colony used to be directly under the leather where you now see all the frags we made while we were in there. The frogspawn mother colony now all lives off to the left.

Has anyone seen anything like this happen before???? I really thought the frogspawn would have just stung the leather!

Sorry about the terrible pictures, all I had was my iPhone and the tank is a half-circle so it's really hard to not have glare.

Mother frogspawn, now moved and fragged:

The leather that caused all the problems:

Shots of the branch that is stuck inside the leather. Make no mistake, the branch is hanging. That bottom part does not touch the rock.:

Finally, all the frags we made to sell, now living where the big colony used to be:
