BRS carbon rinse valve ?

I just say BRS's latest advert and they claim to be the only RO-DI supplier with a "3-way carbon rinse valve". I've never heard of rinsing a carbon filter during use. Does anyone know what this is supposed to do?

Larry, I wonder if its a back wash? We back wash our carbon filters at work.

Mark the claim on being the only one who does this is in an email flier, but here's a link to a pic on BRS's site. I couldn't find any details on the site. I never heard of back washing carbon and always assumed you just throw them out after...a while.
