I have a big chunk of live rock in my tank that is covered with "button polyps." I noticed last night, on the same rock, that there is this "thing" that looks like a "button polyp," without the top. Instead, I noticed that from inside the tube, there are dark black/brown tentacles (one or two) that come out from the inside. Any ideas? What could it be?

vermatid snails possibly, they send out a spider weblike strand that captures food particles and they pull them back into their shell.

Vermetid snails! What a mess.. they look more like a feather duster tube in my opinion though! Whats the best way to get rid of them?!

Better post a pic, before you commit to getting rid of something that might be good for your tank.

Depending on how long the tentacles are, it could be a small tube anemone, too. I agree that a picture would help.

There are very few things in our reef tanks that are harmful enough to warrant getting rid of.
