I was thinking about buying a tap water purifier for my 20 g seahorse tankl, but according to this site it is a waste of money. I am looking into cheap ro units and have found one on bulk reef supply for 80 bucks called bare bones. Can anyone give me suggestions on where to buy cheap ro units for like 75 to80 dollars. It is much appreciated.

Thanks, Nick

Just talked toguy at pet solutions and got some advice, he told me do to the small size of the tank a tap water purifier would be fine and to add purigen and a poly filter in my power filter/surface skimmer. I asked him if i should get a nano skimmer since it is a seahorse tank and he said no

id ignore that advice, a ro-di is essential imo in today's home aquarium, also although skimmers can be avoided in small aquaria provided water changes are regular, i personally suggest you get a skimmer, almost essential imo. as for a cheap ro-di unit, sorry i cant help you with this.

I am by no means an expert...but from EVERYTHING I have read RO/DI water is a MUST. Even for a nano tank. I also understand sea horses require pristine water quality (I have never kept sea horses so this is just my understanding) I would deffinitely get some form or RO/DI unit. In the long run it will save many headaches in the long run. Just my opinion.

One more thing I have learned from this site is that you can RARELY trust the guy at you LFS. They are usually more trouble than they are worth. I have learned to shop at a LFS only if I know exactly what I want. I have the luxury of having many specialty aquarium stores with excellent staff within a short drive. Again just my $.02

I would also say add an RO system to your aquarium tools. That along with a refractometer are the two greatest purchases that can be made for our tanks IMO. The barebones system is fine, but doing a BRS search it seems it doesn't have DI. That is not necessarily a huge issue, just know that you probably will not get 0 TDS water. For the small margin of price increase I would just get a system with DI (generally 5+ tages).

Thanks for the advice guys, I ahve found a spectra pure ro unit in my price range from global aquarium supply. As well as the skimmer I have found an oceanic biocube nano hob skimmer from petsolutions for my tank. I already have a power filter in which I am going to run purigen and poly filter to make sure I have pristine water.
