Do Bioballs, LR rubble, and pond matrix (porous, light weight stones, about an inch in diameter-seachem), all become nitrate factories in back of a nanotank?

I use all 3 of them + ceremic ring in my sump for about 1 1/2 year and my tank is
FO. I used to have about 250lbs of live rock, but I reduce to 120lb to give fish
more swimming room. I clean 1/3 of my mediums weekly using my tank water
and also gravity feed my skimmer which tank water goes directly to skimmer
than it goes to filter sock to bio media. my nitrate stays below 2 using salifert kit.
I dont know how it is going to work on nano tank, I have large tank with large
skimmer, + large amount medium which allow me to clean them weekly without bothering
my tank

Any benefit to using matrix or LR rubble in filter chambers when there is plenty of live rock in tank?

Depends on what you have in the tank. If it is the reef tank with small amount of
fish I would not use it. My tank is FO which is heavily stocked. I'm more concern about
Ammonia than nitrate so I use filter medium. having those media will control ammonia better
but you have to find the way to control your nitrate. If nitrate isn't issue in your tank
those filter medium will work as insurance.
