What type of non live rock could i use in my reef tank. I have 40 lbs of live rock in a 37 gallon tank already.

just add more rock around the tank. and my understanding is that it will become live with time

Base rock or "dry rock" from ancient dry reefs.

Look at marco rocks. I just got 50 #'s of their key largo dry yesterday and it's great rock.

Yes it can... There can be lots of dead stuff in dead rocks.
To avoid this I Bleach the rocks to oxidize anything dead in the rocks when I got them. I then rinse them well and then soaked them in dechlorinator . After that I let them completely air dry. You must use pure unscented bleach.
After a few months you will never know they are dead rocks..
I would just try to find someone tearing down or has tore down a tank local and get their rocks.

The marco rock has no die off. Just rinse it good. I wouldnt add more than a few pieces at a time though to be safe.

Edit: Actually I see on there site some of their rock is precycled now... It was not when I bought mine.
I would still do it just incase though..
