View Full Version : Key largo rock compared to fiji rock?

How is key largo rock compared to fiji rock? Is it porous? I've seen some being sold here (http://www.marcorocks.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=42) and I was thinking of maybe getting some and adding it with fiji rock to my tank that I will be setting up. It looks almost man made to me.

Does anyone have any pros or cons about the key largo rock?

key largo is definitely heavier than fiji but i think it has a nicer shape to it.

Just set up an 1200 gallon reef with it. I really like this rock.

I ordered some for my new tank. It looks great.....still in the box though.

Thanks. Looks nice enough. How's the sizing of the rock? I'm looking for large to x-large pieces 15+lbs per rock.

I have been ordering rock from marco rocks for years. I have had both the fiji and the key largo. I loved the fiji because it was sooo light, bright white, and cool shapes. The Key largo isn't as white and is much heavier. IMO the fiji was better. It seemed the coraline algae also grew / spread faster on the fiji rock. IF the fiji was still available I would not have purchased the key largo.

both are good but the fiji is definitely better, lighter more porous and for some reason grows Coraline algae way faster

Thanks for feedback. I think I'm just going to stick with the Fiji rocks.

Really ? I didn't realize that. I had Fiji in my first reef long long ago. Then in the second reef I went with Marshall Island rock because it was lighter and more porous than Fiji. I can no longer find any trans shippers for Marshall Island, and most of the pacific rock prices have gone way up, so for the 140 I'm setting up now, I was considering Key Largo... but if it's heavier and less porous than Fiji, then perhaps my mind is not made up after all....
