Anyone else getting hit with, or know anyone who's getting hit with this flu?!?!?

My word - I can't remember the last time, if ever, that an illness took me down so hard. Fever, coughing, sneezing, headache, body aches, stomach issues, the works. So weak, probably dehydrated, have only left the bed to move to the couch, and vice versa. No desire to eat or drink but I have to keep trying but nothing wants to stay.

This is NOT fun. If you're exposed to anyone who seems to have it, get some Tamiflu or build up your immunity - this one is nasty!

I despise flu shots.

Good luck Sue, the flu stinks.

Don't like flu shots either. Always bothers me someone to inject me a virus just so I can train my immune system...

For me this has always worked:
1g Vit C every 2 hrs, 1G water a day and elderberry extract 3 times a day. Any flu/cold is gone by 48hrs if you start with first symptom.

Hope you get better.

Thanks all, I feel like I'm starting to come back to life, slowly but surely. Not over yet, but at least I was able to keep down a meal and walk around the house a little.

Yes, hit me like a ton of bricks. I spent several hours aquascaping the new tank Tuesday and took a break to eat something. The food didn't sit right and all hell broke loose after that. I guess I should be grateful that I only had two really, REALLY bad days.

No, no flu shot - don't believe in them. And besides, my boss got one last October and in November he got knocked down with a flu so hard and long I was really starting to worry about him. Lotta good it did him!

I can't remember the last time I had the flu - it's been at least 10 years, so I'll stick with my own immune system - it's done me pretty well so far.

Hopefully will be well enough tomorrow to finish aquascaping, put on the lid, and add the light! :bounce3:

LOL At least send them a postcard once in a while - June is a long way off.

Get a load of this one -- all four of my dogs are sick and it's GOT to be my flu. They are throwing up, coughing, sneezing, and have runny noses. All of them have slept almost solid for the past 24 hours and they won't eat. Now hubby is starting to cough. This one is VERY contagious. My boss better thank me for not going to work tomorrow. :lolspin:

I have had the flu before - that is why I always get the flu shots. I understand the reluctance to get the shots...but the flu is nasty. And it kills people. And not just the old or weak.

While I'm sitting here with the flu I can honestly say next year I may re-consider my thoughts on the flu shot. But I keep remembering the one time I did get one I ended up pretty sick for about a week (coincidence or reaction?) and never got one since and have been very lucky in not catching it. I guess it's a gamble either way - we just have to decide which gamble has the best odds and payoff for us individually (depending on lifestyle, age, health status, etc.)

Flu vaccinations are manufactured based on an educated guess as to what influenza strain will be the most prevalent from year to year. So, there are times that you will get sick with a certain strain of flu that was not the vaccination you received; unfortunately, that leads people to believe that the vaccination either gave them the flu or was ineffective.

So since the strain can change, we are limited to the strain (or strains if they can do more than one) that are in the vaccination. So if the providers guess wrong, then the vaccine is ineffective, by definition, no?

:spin2:

The guess is based on worldwide data reported to the World Health Organization/CDC, so it's fairly accurate; the vaccine prevents influenza for 70 - 90% of healthy adults. If a strain mutates, you still have some protection which can limit the course and/or severity. There is a possibility that you could catch a different influenza strain, but it is far more likely to catch a non-influenza virus (a cold) that is not protected by the vaccination. Of course non-influenza virus symptoms are similar to influenza symptoms leading people to believe that the vaccination was ineffective or the cause of the illness.

So..... I rest my case: it's a gamble.

I look at it as this: it can't hurt and it could help.

The gamble is that you are only risking spending a co-pay on the shot (or free).

It isn't guaranteed to work, but $10 is worth it to me. I not only vividly remember the flu, but the pneumonia I got as a result almost killed me.

This is the first year I've gotten vaccinated. Both seasonal flu and H1N1, and knock on wood, no sickness yet. Not even one of my usual sinus infections!

I am. IMO... waste of time. Add 4000 IU of Vit D to your diet and see how you do. ;)

Time to change your name to Sue with the Flu and her Zoo!

I LIKE IT - it's got a real catchy ring to it! :lolspin:

Regarding the vitamin D, a blood test a few months ago showed I was severely low so now I take supplements twice a day. I feel much more comfortable with those than a flu shot.

Actually we need a slight modification to your suggested name: Sue And Her Zoo With The Flu! We do dog rescue and all four have come down with runny noses and a cough. One of them had to be taken to the vet this morning (love those emergency visits) and he's got a bad case of kennel cough..... must have been brought in by the last rescue. Now my husband is fading fast with fever and cough. The zoo is full of flu. :sad2: I need to get the heck out of here!
