prob. a dumb question but how come at the lfs, you sometimes see hold on the tanks with a certain fish?

Does it not mean they are held for a customer? Like they were specially ordered for them. Is that what you mean or am I missing the question?

Either it is sick, or just arrived and they want to either check that it isn't sick, or it is still acclimating to the tank and they don't wanna put it into a new enviroment twice in the same week. Some rare fish, people will buy to put on reserve while they set up their tank to accomodate that fish as well. Though not many stores allow it.

at the one by me...when you order a fish and when the shipment comes in before you can pickup, it goes into the tank until you pickup
