I know there are alot of diy'ers in the group so lets here about some of your projects (the good and bad).
For me, I enjoy trying to build everything. Have made some stands and canopys, and I'm about to try building a skimmer that has been on my mind.
Hmm let's see. I love the DIY projects.
Stand / Cabinetry
Kalk Reactor - Used the Kalkenstein plans.
Worked well for a while then I cracked the screw top.
Acrylic Fan mounts - Black Acrylic + router table.
Dosing Pumps - very easy project and they work very well.
Some LED moonlights
On the horizon...maybe
Make my own lighting fixture with LEDS & T5s with a black acrylic housing & cooling fans.
I want to make it all modular so I can remove / move the T5s and LEDs.

Is it only reef related? :)
I made my LED lights:

Also a 5G HOB fuge:

reef controller: for now controls lights (sunrise/sunset) and fans, monitors temperature and pH. Power center module is in progress. Don't have a build thread for this one yet.
Aquarium stand: When I moved to Stamford, I was told I cannot have a propane grill, so I converted it to my aquarium stand using some MDF for the top and a piece of fabric for the sides. Hopefully when I get into a house again I'll enjoy my grill again...
Also I made my auto top off with a few float switches and a relay, frag racks with some magnets and egg crate and a bunch of filter socks from felt sheets from walmart :)
I have a lot of audio related DIY (speakers, amps, DACs and other small gadgets), but will not put details for them here :)

Let's see some photos those all sound cool. I changed my reef octo xetrem to a gate valve by turning 1 1/4" pipe on the lathe because it has 40mm pipe. Nothing special but it makes adjustement very easy.

For my contribution to this thread:
I built my own 75g all glass tank. And this was before there were all the wonderful resources available to tell you how. For me it was basically research and trial and error. This thread will tell you how...

I built a simple device that turns an Ozmolator ATO into an ATO that also manages automated water changes for you. It requires the purchase of an extra Tuze pump, tiny water pump, a controller, and some pretty simple electrical DIY. And this thread explains it, with parts, assembly, etc...

And while it's - strictly speaking - not DIY because I did not assemble it, I did design my own mini-sump/fuge to fit in my tiny stand, then had it fabricated. For a nano, it's got all the bells an whistles. And since there was no vertical room in my stand to raise/lower my skimmer, I designed it to have adjustable water height instead. You can see in the plans at the bottom of this thread...
