Well I had a power spike in the night which has never happened before. Anyway I checked everything out in the morning and all was working fine on my reef tank. Pumps, chillers, lights etc. Anyway as it happens I have a really long day at work and get home late and all corals and anemones are closed up fish are acting funny and off course I start to freak. Anyway I guess the spike reset my chiller to 55 degrees and its been on all day and the temp is like 60 in the tank.
Can my reef handle this and recover?

Thanks for your responses in advance.

It's possible, just don't do anything that raises the temp too quickly, a normal tank heater with plenty of flow around it should do the job properly, just keep an eye on it. At this point, it problably wouldn't be a bad idea to get a spare heater in case you loose one from overworking itself. I figure a lower temp to be a bit less traumatic on livestock then a higher temp, say 90F. Next step will be to get a controller and some solenoid's to setup some fail safes in the event it happens again.

Good Luck.

For future reference, for any kind of power mishaps (power outages, etc) you should have a battery powered aerator on hand. It may come in handy one day ;)

You should be fine. i've had wprse disasters in my tank with everything recovering. I find that fish that have been around a while in the tank are very hardy. If you have new guys in there, I would worry a bit
