Skimmer Question

I was wondering are there any tests for the stuff a skimmer removes from the tank? Sometimes mine produces stuff other times it doesn't and I thought if I could test the water then I could tell if it's just the skimmer had done it's job so well OR the skimmer wasn't working..

If you are getting brownish or dark skimmate in the collection cup then the skimmer is doing its job. You should see the bubbles rising to the lid of the skimmer cup carrying blackish material. Don't set you water level too high in the skimmer. The bubbles need to froth up the protein.

A lot of what you skim is according to how much you feed so it is not unusual for the amount to vary

There's no affordable way to test skimmer output, for most values of "affordable". That's one of the reasons we know so little about them.
