I'm interested in this... I have a 150 that I'm looking at lighting options on and mine too, is 72"

Wayne - I've been to Stavanger :) Back in the Navy days when my ship pulled in. Neat little town, but dang those pints are expensive :)

imo opinion you will be able to see the difference in teh lights. In my 180 i have 3 250w mhs, the actnic supplememnt. but you could still do it. but different sides of the tank will look obvious

When I had a 55, I had a halide over one side and T5s over the other. I did this to keep SPS/clams on one side and more light sensitive corals on the other. Without a doubt, you will notice a difference in the lighting. However, with one halide in the middle and T5s on both ends, it will be a symmetrical look and might not bother you at all. I didnt really mind the gradient I had in my tank, but it was noticable.

I have a 125 (72*18*24) with 4*39w T5s and 3*250w MHs. All retrofits. I ended up breaking 3 of the cheap MH bulbs as soon as I installed them in my new canopy. So a friend let me borrow his old 250w Odyssea bulb b/c he was switching to a new SPS brand MH. I installed it in my center MH fixture and it is cool how the middle of the tank is BRIGHT and the ends look purple from the T5s. I like how the fish will swim into the "sun" and then go hang out in the shade, and then repeat. I will try to post a pic tonight. PS: I ordered 3 new bulbs and plan to run all 3 MHs.

Yes, it will look funny to you, but not to the untrained eye.
