I don't have time to research this right now, I sort of need a fast answer... I've been a member of this forum for years, so please don't flame me for not using the search button...

my 90 gallon aquarium is slowly but surely dying (I'm in Europe and can't help it)... my mom wants to keep the 2 clowns and she would like a smaller aquarium that is easier to maintain...

I remember reading a few years ago about the 28 gallon JBJ with metal halide lighting, some people were complaining about how it was necessary to get a little chiller for the tank because of the heat buildup from the lights. I was curious did JBJ ever fix this design flaw?

would anyone recommend this tank? can it keep anemones with the MH lighting it has?

if there is anything anyone can tell me quickly, it would be very very appreciated

thanks!

Noobie

I have a nanocube HQI and could have made it without a chiller but the temp did get to 80.5 with running a clip on azoo fan on the back. The drawback was quick evaporation rates and a temp that swayed between 77-80.5. I ended up getting a chiller. As far as growth, I keep many SPS that are continuing to grow well. No anemones but I am sure they would be fine.

Hey NoobieNemo (great handle for a guy who's been on the board this long btw :) ) - I'm running the 28g in SoCal. You CAN run it without a chiller, but it's a closed tank so if your ambient temps swing up over 80-85 your tank is going to heat up pretty quick too. Some people run a little double azoo fan over the lid to push heat off or you can raise the lid a bit to get more evap.

All said, I wouldn't call the "heat issue" a flaw by JBJ. It's a closed tank and it does what all other closed nano tanks do. If you want to be sure to avoid heat spikes, get the 1/15 chiller - you'll thank yourself at the end of the day
