Hi guys,
I'm about to buy a RO/DI system for BRS or the filter guys but I'm not sure which one to get.
Should i go with the 4 stage or 5 stage system? Next question should i order it with the dual inline tds meter or get the tds handheld meter.

first off it depends on what your TDS out of your tap is, if its very high you might want to go with a 5 stage, and to start out all you would need is a hand held TDS meter, if your not sure what your TDS out of your tap is im sure you could take a sample to your LFS to have it tested

Oh when i done using the ro/di system do i need to empty out all the water left it the filters before storage. the reason i ask this is the system will "not" be permanently hooked up. But when i need to use the system i will set it up out side or on the bath room sink counter.

Metal Man, i do not know what the tds is out of my tap water, but i do know that it is very hard water and 50% of it is well water i think.

I like this unit from BRS its got the dual in-line TDS meter as well as the pressure gauge if you can get in on a group buy you could save like $20 on it too.....

I would grab a 5 stage myself. generally the 5th stage is the DI that polishes your water down to 0TDS.

In all honesty it depends on what the tds coming out of the tap, and the pressure. If you have a low tds, by all means go all Di with the anion and cation in two separate chambers. If it was a high tds, go with a nice ro with a high rejection rate. I had low pressure when I started and needed a booster pump. I just moved, great pressure, lower tds, but now I have chloramine. If you know what your working with as far as your tds, tap, pressure, etc, you could make a better decision. I do business with Thefilterguys often. They always answer the phone, and have never "sold" me anything. He owns his fair share of reef tanks and will shoot you straight. Happy Reefing

I just brought in a sample of my water to lfs today their tds meter gave me a read out of 309. I also have good water pressure and my city does not have chloramine in the water according to the city water department website.
