My skimmer has been overflowing every night for the past several days. It will operate like it should all day and then sometime during the night it will go crazy and fill up the cup.

any ideas?

Which skimmer is it? Also, when and what do you feed the tank, and how / when do you do your topoff?

Skimmer is a MSX200

I feed the tank in early evening, usually 1 cube of mysis. I have a ato.

In that case, I would take a look at the impeller, plumbing, and air path (venturi, airline & silencer) to make sure nothing is blocking the airway. Most times, provided chemicals haven't been dosed, skimmers run wild because of a lack of air draw, they just pump a lot of water into the skimmer very very quickly.

I used a flashlight to look at the pump intake and it looks clear. I guess I have to take the pump apart to check it

OK, I took the pump off and the venturi was almost completely clogged with hard white stuff. I scraped it all out and hooked it back up. Seems to be working fine. I'll just have to wait and see if it does it again.

Thanks for your help.

It helps to periodically suck some really hot (microwave it) RO/DI water through the air hose - the hot water tends to break down any deposits and keep your floors much drier :spin1:

Glad you got it figured out, and I could help.

Just put the top of the hose in the hot water?

Wouldn't that hurt the pump?

My old skimmer would start doing this when it needed a good cleaning. I use to use a water and vinegar mixture, just set it in a bucket after i cleaned it and let it run over night.
