Going to run two 400 watt SE 20k Radiums over a 120 using Lumenarc Mini reflctors. What ballast/manufacturer do you recommend to burn them whiter. Will plan on also having actinics
Thanks

I use Icecaps for mine. 400W bulbs are a lot for a 120 IMHO even with a 20K bulb. I almost feel like they are too much for my 180 at times.

I use the Lumatek ballast and my 400's are not as blue as on a regular HQI ballast.

I use 400W radium 20k's with icecap ballast... They are very very blue.... They look great and I also run an icecap VHO ballast and IMO that combination is to blue... Great for show but growth is very slow...

Funny mine don't look that overly blue at all. Actually they look less blue (at least from my recollection) then the 250W 14K Hamiltons I used run on my old smaller tank.

No complaints about growth rate from me.

I use the galaxy ballast with 400W radiums. Great combo imo.

do the radiums burn whiter using that ballast?
Thanks

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I am thinking of buying Lumenarc Mini reflectors for SE 400 Radiums. Are the plugs that come with those reflectors universal and fit the Galaxy ballasts?

i use 2-400w 20k reeflux SE MH with coralvue ballasts and have great color and growth. I also use 8x54w T5 and 2-24" VHO super actinics. All over a 120g system.

Just curious, if you want a white color, why are you going with a 20 k bulb? Go with a lower color temp like 14 or 12k

Snowcap I was at lumenarc today talking to Tom the owner and they can put any plug you want on the units you just need to let them know.

Radiums will burn whiter and degrade quicker on HQI ballasts and the new Lumentex switchable ones . Older Lumentex's and galaxy's run them nicely . (prolly the best balance for color and longevity of the bulb imho ). All other's tend to be slightly more blue . It's just a matter of taste .

I run mine on a lumatek adjustable ballast. I had it on the 400 hqi and it was to bright for my open top 93 cube now I just run it on 400 and its great.

Are you guys running halide bulbs only with out supplementation? If so how are the corals doing with 400 watts?
