i'm gettin ready to drill my tank and i know where to put my overflow, but i'm not real sure where to put my return line...
i've read that you should drill a couple 1/8 holes in the return to be a siphon break, but does that apply for drilled returns? should i just put my return down...
WAIT.....i just figured this out, i won't need a siphon break if i run an overflow...right?
so i can put that return wherever i want, right? is there anywhere in particular that i should put it? i have one of those bendy eductor flow returns.

The holes should be in the return line to provide a siphon break. The line itself can be run up over the edge of the tank, which is what I'd do. The location doesn't matter much.

well i've already got the hardware for the thru glass hook up. and i will still need the holes to prevent the return line from pulling a siphon. got to thinkin about that too.
maybe i'll just get a check valve and drill the return a little lower than the overflow opening.

get some extra lockline and make a hump that extends out of the water. Drill your holes. presto!

This thread is really really old. But the hump wouldn't work. The holes would spray water out and be really noisy.
I drilled it about a 1/2 inch lower than the overflow. Works great.

I'd go up an over the edge of the tank for a return line. It makes for really easy maintainence too. Plus when you go up and over, you can move the return whenever you want to.

again, this thread is over a year old. i've drilled it and i'm done with it. goin up over the edge is good for tanks with a canopy. mine's a clean rimless, so nothing comes up over the top.
