View Full Version : How quiet are Tunze recirc pumps?

Hi,

I ordered some Red Dragon Pumps for my 125 setup. I need one for my return and one for my closed loop.

My LFS told me today they were not available and it could be 2 months before I might get them. That sucks! Tried a few places in the IS and Canada, no one has any Red Dragons.

So, my LFS suggested the Tunze pumps. The 040 and 090, I believe. Now, my biggest concern is the noise level. This tank is in the middle of my TV Room, Office and recording studio. That's why I wanted the red Dragons. I know Tunze makes great products, but are these pumps as quiet as they say they are? Good quality, I'm assuming.

Any input would be appreciated. I really don't want to wait another 2 months to get this setup running. It's already been 4 months since I started!

thanks

I recently installed two 1073.040 Tunze recirc pumps on my 120 gal tank, they are very quiet and work great so far.

Thanks DDRR, how quiet? Can you still hear them, or is it pretty much inaudible?

That is the only drawback of the vortecs, noise. Different units can be quieter that others.

I'm not talking about the Vortechs. I'm looking into the return/closed loop external pumps.

Thanks, though.

I wouldnt say inaudible, I had to turn off my skimmer, open the stand door and lean next to the sump to barely hear the return pumps.

Well, that's pretty much inaudible then. I will, of course have the doors on the stand closed, so, looks like that would do the trick. Also, they are a LOT cheaper than the Red Dragons, so that helps, considering everything else cost way more than I planned!:spin3:

Thanks for the input. Cheers

Last time I checked the 1073.04 were on sale at Salty Critter online.

Thanks. yes, they are. However, I need to go through my LFS since I need to return the pumps I originally got from him. Appreciate the thought though :)
