Ok I made this post to figure out if theres a way to keep your water quality high enough, long enough to only have to do a small (10%-20%) water change monthly or, even better, everyother month. My Tank is a standard 75g tank. For filteration I have a coralife 120g super skimmer, A 125g wet/dry filter that i plan on making half refugium, 1 and 1/2 inch sand bed, 50 pounds of reg. rock and i plan on getting about 20pound of live rock. I have a 216watt t5( 4bulbs). I haven't set up the tank yet so i have no livestock but i plan on getting some tangs, clowns, cleaner shrimp for the tangs, a basic cleaner crab/invert package, and some corals. Will this set up keep the water clean enough by itself to do this or am I missing something? And responses would be great. I can be about the water quality or anything about the tank in general. Thank you

Its kind of hard to answer that question because we would need to put that into context compared to other factors such as overfeeding, bad water source, or anything else that would contribute to quality problems.

^^^
Althought a bad water source is only going to compound the potential issues you have the more frequently you do changes.

it depends on the type of corals and type of fish and the the size and number of fish you plan on keeping 1 water change per month is about as long as i would go. on my 75g i do 10% every other week . the lager you bio load the more changes you will need to do.

There are a number of reasons to do water changes, including replenishing trace elements or removing them, as needed, and generally fixing the ionic balance. Other reasons would include removing chemicals that cause yellow water or organic compounds released by corals. I wouldn't skimp on the water changes just because the parameters are fine. There are lots of parameters we can't measure.
