NEW TANK! Got it at a steal and couldn't resist.

Tank: Nanocube 28
Light: 150w w/ 2x18w Nanotuners upgrade.
Skimmer: Soon to be Reef Octo BH-1000 (HOB)
Flow: Two Maxi-jet 1200s for return, and 1 Vortech MP10.

30 lbs. Fiji Pink, 20lbs. Fiji Pick premium, making a 3.5-4 inch sandbed.

30 lbs. Rock

PLANS
SPS dominated reef... Monti caps on the back right corner, acros everywhere I can cram, with ricordeas and zoas on the lower rockwork. A couple things on the sandbed, but not much to clutter it up. I wanted more of a bonsai, clean look but it was too difficult. :P

I'm going to go with a bluespot jawfish, two clowns, and maybe a one or even a pair of blennies of diver's den.

Nice rockwork and rics, you going to keep the GSPs? Only thought is you may end up (longing for/lusting/wishing/needing?) more space at the top for high light SPS, I flattened my rockwork out to allow more space, just a thought. Looks great.

The GSPs aren't on the rock. They add some color, and I won't let them spread. I'm not sure if I'll keep them. If I find something nicer to replace it with, I will. :)

The rockwork doesnt look like it would support SPS, but I stacked it with SPS in mind. There is alot of depth, and I have it all planned out. :spin3:

Also, I'm getting a 250w halide, so they can have all the light they want. :eek2:

Local frag swap today... thank goodness I've been saving up for a while... :)

Needs to be organized. I had too much to do today after the swap, so they are just sitting on the sand.

Blue Boa Aussie Echinata from Wet Thumb Frags (Yes, the real deal!! I can't believe I found one. The structure of these is amazing.)

I am pretty sure your large colony is not an efflo. Efflos tend to be more caplike and less branchy like traditional acros. However, it is a cool looking piece. Just google image efflo and you should see what I mean

Nice corals and nice tank. Are you running a chiller?

I'm not. I bought the sunpod used, so the fans barely work and are noisy. I'm replacing them soon. But I got a cheap clip on 5 dollar fan as I wait to replace the sunpod fans with some more powerful SilenX ones, and I actually had a problem with it cooling the water too much. It's barely blowing across the water now, and the temp is a rock solid 78.

Before you upload to photobucket, you can set the size of the images and that's what size they will be once loaded. You can set this size and not have to change it for all your photos. There's a thing to click on in the area where you click to start the upload process. (I think)

hey dylan. i wouldnt suggest silenX as the fans you get. along with being a reefer, i'm also a computer geek and will tell you theres much better fans than the silenX fans that run a higher cfm and at a lower cfm. not to mention that silenX bearings are pure crap compared to other fans. let me know what size you're looking for and i'll look around. I might even have some extra ones laying around

I would say it's pretty close. Radium has a little more PAR though, but I guess it also depends on the ballast. On your shallow tank, a 150w radium with a really good reflector would probably be enough. You just need a simple fan and will have no heat issues whatsoever.

Correct. Actually, the sunpod 250w HQI I was running broke down. THe ballast crapped out. I ordered a Lumenmax 3 MH pendant and icecap ballast.

2.Pink digitata
3.Pink chalice
4.Pink birdsnest
5.Green polyped acro on the front right over the rics.

I think the tricolor valida is bleaching too.

Really? Strange.. none of these are huge light mongers. They should all be just fine under 150... Especially the chalice.. And, it hasn't been long enough to "kill" them from light deprivation...

Qualifier- I have a 12 gallon cube with a 150 over it, and run 4 400W EVC 20k's over my 180.

I move coral from one to the other all the time. You maybe need to check your water....

Since then, I have a new verdict. I turned up my flow and... ripped the flesh off of my pink birdsnest. The tissue managed to land on my corals. I would have never though it, but it's happened to people before, and it makes perfect sense.

Ah man, hope it all goes well for you with the red bug killer. My tank has 17 SPS frags with a few that are mini colonies almost and I dread the day I see SPS red bugs or other SPS eaing creature.

Your tank looks really nice. I find it strange though that that Phoenix 14K at 150w caused bleaching due to (extra?) light.

Red bugs aren't too bad, and supposed to be easy to treat. Just dip all your stuff :D

No, that wasn't it. My MP10 blew the flesh off of my old pink birdsnest and some of the other corals ate the pieces. That explains why all of them were ****ed off, and there were two areas where the corals bleached. And that explained why the chalice was vomiting out it's guts :p

So after a month or so with the WM-H1 do you have any further opinions on it? My cube is incoming and am wondering how the stock skimmer will perform. Haven't heard any great reviews but others say it works adequately for their SPS tank.

What was your experience with the stock skimmer and now the WM?

I didn't ever use the stock skimmer, but I've used a Tunze 9002. I have to say this works 3-4x better. It is AMAZING. I couldn't imagine a skimmer pulling half of what the WM does before I got it.

I have no regrets! This is more than worth it IMO, and makes my life so much easier. I never worry about overfeeding, never worry about aaanything anymore. I'm sure other skimmers will do, but you will never regret it! It is amazing, I would feel comfortable on putting it on a 40 gallon SPS tank.

My camera is a Canon Cybershot P&S, so the white balance is always a bit wierd, so I adjust everything with iPhoto. Last batch turned out too blue. It's a 20k bulb though, so it's still very blue. Sometimes the coral picture is very dull, and when I color it accurately, everything else in the picture is off.

I'll post a picture where you can tell the colors accurately next picture batch.

Also, you had listed some of you additives, is that all you add?

One last question, what and how do you feed the tank(ie. spot feed or just dump it in...)

Thanks

Thank you!

I'm running the tank MH from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

The tank temperature is a steady 78.

I add Bulk Reef Supply Two-Part (Alkalinity and calcium) and magnesium. That's it.

I use disposable pipettes from Drs. Foster & Smith to feed frozen PE mysis. I only feed 4 or 5 shrimp at a time to make sure all of it gets eaten by the fish. I also spot feed it to the LPS. I make sure to rinse the mysis well, it comes packaged with lots of phosphates and nitrates and other bad organics. I enrich the mysis in Garlic Xtreme and Selcon.

Along with that, I feed Oyster Feast to my SPS. I just pour a little bit into the water column.

Thanks!

It was sold to me as a candy apple red, but it has an orange ring that CARs don't. It's not quite a bowser though. I'm thinking maybe a 5-color rainbow... but who knows. It's nice! :)
