Came free with my live rock - seems to be of flower petal texture and is sometimes tucked down in a hole in the live rock. Other times it is "un-furled" as shown.

Anyone know?

Thanks for looking,
Ryan

A shroom, very prolific. You will have that rock covered soon.

It's a friendly mushroom coral. If you have any lighting at all (PC, T5, MH) it will be just fine

Thanks for the quick response, guys. I do have T5 lighting going so hopefully I'll see more of them.

Oh, you'll see more of them for sure. They multiply pretty rapidly. In fact, if you don't want them to take over your entire tank, you might want to isolate that rock from your main rock structure.

LOL... keep this thread in mind for when you come back in a year asking how to get rid of them. :celeb1:  :spin1:

Not my tank, but a learning tool none the less.

Yup. The scourge of the reef aquarium. It's damn near impossible to get rid of these suckers.

I even find baby ones in my sump. I use filter socks!

It's a mushroom. Maybe your LFS likes you and give it as a bonus.

They can get out of control, but if you keep up on them you will be OK.

Discosoma Mushroom

Others find it a blessing, while others find it a plague.
beware the xenia and GPS plague! AHHHHHHHHHHH!

Both a blessing & a plauge. I like them personally, but they multiply like crazy. Their hardiness is evident but it also makes them hard to kill.
That said, at least my bicolor angel leaves 'em alone so there is something I can keep with HER in the tank LOL.

My first discosoma mushroom seemed to die, only to suddenly reappear out of nowhere after my 2ND tank move(!) then multiplied like the Tribbles in classic Star Trek!
They also survived the recent tank crash. Of course..
