What should I do??

My buddy's tank sprung a leak while he was out of town. He bought a 4" powder brown tang on his way home. Well as you can imagine he had nowhere to put it. He gave it to me and I can't return it cause the place he got it at had a 24 hr return policy and I didn't have enough time. So now I have this gorgeous fish thats probably too big for my 75. I put it in Q for 2 weeks and all is good. No ich and eating well. I'd love to keep it but I don't know if I can. Its doing great though. How long before he gets too big?

No plans on adding anymore.

Could you hold on while your pal sorts his tank out?
You could trade it in or upgrage your tank to say, a 150.
If you kept it in the 75 i'm sure it would get restless in no time and you'd then be in a difficult situation.
I dont know the best answer for you really-hope it works out and for your friend too!

No I don't think so cause his thank had about 5 or 6 gallons of water left when he got home it was a 90 w/ lots of coral. Everything was dead. He's got water damage on his carpet. Basically a disaster. His wife says he's done and right now so does he. So I'm stuck w/ the fish. I've always liked them and always wanted one but wasn't sure about tank size. I've read that 75 is the min. but opinions differ.

Fish started grazing last night which is good but I noticed that it looks like its going after copepods. Do Tangs eat pods? Or am I just noticing the pods moving from the area where he is grazing?

In my experience, tangs will eat just about anything.

He's doing great. I've just heard that sometimes pulling the fish out of the tank and going through quarantine will just stress the fish out more than its worth. If I pull him out of the tank I'll take him to my lfs because they have a qt tank were they can treat him. I qt him in a 10 gal for 2 weeks and he did fine. I think he's too big a fish for a 4ft tank, maybe not at this size but when he is full grown.

Granted a larger tank would be better, but I don't see a reason why you can't have it in a 75 Gal for a while. Powder Browns will not get very big, the biggest I have ever seen in a tank was about 6", so your 75 should be fine for a while.

As for Crypt - I would guess that your tank already had the parasite, it's always in there provided there is a fish host, and if you're like most of us, you probably introduced the parasite years ago when you started. Ideally, you want to pull everyone from the tank and treat them, but if not just keep feeding away, it may be able to resist it for a while.

He was beautiful but I want whats best for the fish anyways. They put him in a qt tank w/ an ick treatment.

Back when I had an A nigricans (( gold rim tang )) and didn't know better I had one in my 75. Once I realized it was getting too big I sold it, but made sure it was going into a tank that was at least 6', and it ended up in a 220.
