I have a aquaclear 110 500gph a 2 koralia 3 powerhewds at 850gph

thats a total of 2200gph on a 55 gal tank that it 40 times the flow. Ive heard a lot of opinions on this subject, so I juess a few more could only get my totally confused of figured right out.

Am I overpowered in the water flow dept?

As long as you aren't kicking up the sandbed you should be fine. Depending on the livestock many members take the flow much higher.

if you start noticing your fish swimming but not getting anywhere u have a problem
one of my tanks is a 55 and i have about 600gph and i think double that would be perfect for me
i would say yours is overkill but it would hurt either unless it starts blowing things around, but if you distribute it right you will be fine

the flow from the aquaclear is not really contributing to the actual flow in the tank that the fish or corals my be experiencing.
Two k3 are fine but as other posters have said, just observe the affects it might have on the sand bed and the fish.
Also, take advantage of the flow and make sure the surface of the water is really churning--a major place of gas exchange for the tank.

That is a good combination, I wouldn't worry too much about the flow from the aquaclear, it is very broad unlike a directional powerhead. Also, you can turn it down a bit by moving the intake pipe counterclockwise. I use the same filter on my 20L QT, since the output of the filter is at water level and so broad, it doesn't overpower the fish.

I've got 2 k4s in my 55. Fish love it. I look forward to adding some LPS and softies soon. There are areas of high and low flow with the way I have them setup. Just play around with their placement until you find a way you and the inhabitants are happy.
