Once my 55 gallon is fully established and I get fish added as the as 2nd to last step (last step will be in a few (6 to 12) months to add an anenome (sp?) at some point), I would like to add a web cam to broad cast the tank on the web.
Primary function would be for if I take trips or anything that I have a way to monitor what's happening. Secondary purpose would be just to monitor if anything goes wrong on a day to day period.
I'm not sure how timelapse works, but, If I recorded the video to computer, could do some editing to create timelaps videos over the course of a month or different things like that.
A few things that could be identified:
1. Shrinkage or growth of corals.
2. Monitoring of fish activities and agressiveness.
Depending on the angle of the camer, also could be used to monitor the sump while away. Different things like that.
Worse case is to monitor for if the sump or something goes wrong and starts the house on fire by getting in contact with electricity. :)
Anyways, I'm new to broadcasting 24 /7 with a webcam. Is there software, websites, etc that do this for reasonable price? (Non adult websites please).
Thanks,

I do it all the time on justin.tv
It takes some setting up, but once it's set up, you can broadcast in HD and it's really quite easy. There are full instructions at http://community.justin.tv/mediawiki/index.php/Broadcasting

My intention is to use this Old Dell I have here as a bot box to run the cam and broadcaster. If you have any trouble, you can PM me here and I can offer a hand.

Linksys has cameras with IP addresses. You can watch in real time.

that Linksys camera is super-cool. I gave it to my wife as a gift idea for the next gift-giving event, such as a Saturday or St. Pattie's Day or whatever come next, since Groundhog Day has already passed. :)

I have an older model linksys ip camera, besides providing real time video feed, I can set it up to upload snapshot to an ftp server at fixed interval, so that will serve your time lapse need. I am sure the newer models are a lot fancier and probably cheaper than when I got mine.

I use this (http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-BL-C131A-Network-Camera-Wireless/dp/B000NVR9SM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1267120624&sr=8-1) camera for home security which you can use to look at your DT. I've seen some other people on RC who also use this camera.

With the IP Cameras (wireless or not) one can simply just browse to the ip address (provided the network router is setup correctly to allow public access to that IP address) and it will just bring up the video feed in a IE session?
Or is there additional software/ applications one needs to use to make it public viewable?

I ended up getting the Axis 213PTZ IP camera its pretty nice but comes with a hefty price tag. Approx 1.5kUSD
I only set it up and use it when I go away on vacation .. its full of pre-sets and options. I setup coords for sump, thermometer, lighting, timers, all sorts of stuff really cool.
Here is the site that sold me...

One thing to consider is the site hosting above I believe is on a 5mgb upload .... I personally have a 1.5mgb upload and it was good enough but I would not go lower then a 1mgb up with this camera unless you do not mind reducing quality or frame rate.

No software is needed. If you have a dynamic or even static IP it's best to use a dynamic dns host.
Just use your browser to access your camera. I can monitor my home when I am on vacation using my iPhone.
do you have any streaming software to use or just use the ip to your camera?
I have a 4 camera and setup and I cant login tot he stream because iphone dosnt support rtsc
