I have an AGA 29g tank that im going to use as a sump by installing baffles etc...

My only problem is I can't come up with a design myself, alot of the DIY sumps I see have refugiums or are overly complicated for me.. I'm trying to keep it simple, does anyone have a picture of a basic sump for me to "copy" all I really need is like a baffle (2 or 3) for bubble trap, and a place for my skimmer.

The contents of the 29g sump will be:

1- ASM Mini-G Skimmer

2- Return pump inside the tank (Tunze Silence 1073.020)

3- various probes and my water heater.

I was thinking of just a bubble trap with baffles and the skimmer on opposite side of the pump, I just don't know how to go about this, and how to position the baffles (height and space between)

any help is greatly appreciated, never done this before, my first non all-in-one tank....

Basic simple sump. Dimensions X and Y, will depend on your skimmer foot print. The skimmer section only needs to be large enough for the skimmer to fit. Baffle height can be 8" - 10" depending on the skimmer needs.

awesome drawing jim thanks i'll follow that.. so the three baffles should be 1" apart?

and the drain should drain into the side where the skimmer is right?

Yep, and in the drawing above, the skimmer section is the "lefthand" section. ;) If you want the skimmer on the right, just turn the image around. KO, so it was a long day.... :D

Right got ya, so drain into the skimmer compartment...

now last question, removable baffles.. im guessing im getting to complicated now right? :P I guess i'll just go with silicone :P

Drain into skimmer section. Yes. And yes removable baffles is getting complicated. IMO, don't see a need for it really. Silicone them in.

when asking a glass company how wide should I ask them to cut the glass? i'm thinking 1/8" shorter than the width of the tank?

Jim,

this may be a dumb question, but for the width of the baffle, do I go with how wide the tank is spec wise? ie: 12 in wide, so I'd ask them to cut the glass at: 11 3/4" ?

Don't go by the specs. Measure the inside dimensions of the tank. Otherwise would be a big ooops........ ;)
