Hi,
I'm rather new to the hobby and have learned the hard way there are some bad stuff that can grow or develop. Is there a list out there with pictures to help identify and get rid of them?

I've encountered the following over the past year:
- aiptasia; I'm sure most people have seen this; Add a peppermint shrimp
- majano anemone; This surprised me since they look okay in the attached picture but they do grow pretty quick; Took the rock out before they spread.
- hydroids; Just found out about this one; See thread on soft coral ID for a better picture.
- red slime algae; Recently eliminated by increasing flow
- green hair algae; Haven't encountered but have heard

If anyone can add to the list, please share...

This hobby has it's challenges but I'm learning everyday and sticking with it!

Playing Devil's advocate, I've never considered any reef organisms "bad".
There's simply a competition for survival. Given the proper environment conditions anything and everything will try to occupy and dominate any environmental niche.

On the other hand, I could consider certain purple Montipora species in my reef aquarium "bad".
The dang things grow like weeds over other corals.

Cloak - Thanks for the link. I was sure there's a list out there already. Looks like there's a lot I need to keep an eye out for!

Gary - I agree with you on how it depends on your perspective. Xenias are another example of a "good" coral that someone else might consider nuisance since they grow so fast. I'll have that "problem" soon. I guess it comes down to what you want to keep.

Thanks!

Here's a few more. These just provide the names, so if you see something that looks familiar, your just going to have to google it.
