Hey all, just checked out my pouch of Purigen in my overflow and it's brown, so I assume it's time to clean/regenerate it. Seachem says to soak it in a bleach solution. What ratio of water to bleach should I use? Also, does Purigen work like new again after being regenerated?

I've taken the entire filter bag with purigen insideand left in a 1:3 bleach to water ratio for 24 hours. After that you have to put it in a dechlorinator (check with your lfs) to get rid of the bleach chlorine and you're good to go.

Alright. I soaked it in a bleach solution overnight and now it is soaking in dechlorinated RO/DI water.

Not to pick, but a dechlorinator and dechlorinated water are two separate things. Just want to make sure.

I know. I added some Chlorine remover to the RO/DI water. :)

you have to use alot of chlorine remover i had to soak mine for almost a month before the bleach smell went away and i used almost half a bottle of prime!

I followed the directions on their website for regeneration and didn't have any issues.

I use a couple spoons of their prime dechlorinater and soak for a few hours and its good to go. Seachem recommends replacing the purigen after something like 7 or 8 regenerations.

Are you using the small pouch? I've considered regenerating mine but the $8 ever 4 months or so isn't enough of a deterrent to stop me from just buying more and avoiding the risk of crashing my tank.

I keep three of them. Soak them over night in bleach, dechlorinate for 48 hours then allow to air dry for 4 to 8 weeks. While one is being used the other two are drying out and all chlorine is removed. ;)
