I am trying to quiet down my overflow and have seen the durso diy page and I need a little input. I have a 125 gall. dt with a single overflow in 1 corner. It has a 1" bulkhead in the middle of the overflow. The diy page suggests using 1 1/4" pipe. I cannot fit that due to size restrictions. Is it alright to use 1" pipe without any problems?

a durso has to be reduced to work correctly. so if you have a 1" bulkhead the standpipe needs to be larger like 1 1/4"

what are the ill effects if you aren't able to use a larger standpipe? is it still noisy or is it a possible flood?

from what i have read the flow rate is effected.
