Since a standard 4x2x2' rimless tank is made of 1/2" glass, if I have a tank of the same dimension and glass thickness but with braces, can I simply remove the braces and turn it into a rimless tank?

I just did this to my 29 gallon and have seen it done with the same tank of those dimensions.. You just need to euro brace the tank with non-consumer grade silicone.. daps, Ge, etc.. Use silicone such as Dow corning 999-a or momentive scs1200.. These silicone form a much stronger bond then consumer grade and yes the 3 I mentioned are aquarium safe I promise..

Never mind now, the tank is eurobraced and has no centre brace.

Thanks guys.

The glass is the same but the silicone might not be. Stick with your eurobraced tank and enjoy :)
