Here's some pics throughout the process of setting this tank up. Special thanks to SCMAS and Clay from Cadlights for donating the tank! It is awesome!

The tank has been set up for three weeks. Added the naked clown and the clean up crew- 10 Margarita snails, 1 Turbo snail, 3 Hermits, 2 Conchs, and a Skunk Cleaner Shrimp this weekend. We cycled the tank with Seachem Stability. Ammonia was at .5 day two, .25 day 5, and 0 day 8. Now Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrates are all 0.

The diatoms are out in full force right now so please excuse the mess! That should all be gone in no time. The bottom piece of LR has tons of life so it should seed the new pieces nicely with time. Common' coraline!

Enjoy!

The lines on the tank are sick!

Just a little cloudy haha-

Couple days later with the seed rock before the Diatom bloom-

Here we are building the rock pillars. We got the rock at Ocean Blue for like $3/lb. We used plastic rods used for blinds, drilled the rock with a 3/8" bit and puttied away.

Nice! Been waiting to tag along to this one. Just finishing up the final details of my own CADLights tank.

Can you take a close-up of the sump and overflow guts when you have a minute? Did you glue it all together, or just use ties?

JeepSRT
03/07/2010, 04:50 PM
I used ties in most places, and some silicone on the bulk heads, although I now wish I would have not done that. I will work on getting some more pictures of the sump and plumbing later. I had to order a 1/2" Y, rather that using a T, the T made the lines Kink up.

Thanks for looking.

Is that the macro rock?

JeepSRT
03/07/2010, 05:22 PM
Its actually not Macro rock, but very similar, I forget what it was called, but for the price its hard to beat, it is very porous and light weight.

Well either way, it looks great. Are you running the same lighting that comes with the tank?

Yup, I think I may change out the bulbs in the near future, but it still works great. I was also thinking of changing out the Fan to something a tad quieter.

But man I love this tank.

Just need to start adding all the goodies to it.

Excited to be back in the game, with a sweet little tank.

I am not sure as of yet, most likely a mixed reef. I have some various Zoo's in there ATM, as well as 1 Naked clown. I am thinking of a snowflake clown as well.

I am open to suggestions, I am trying to limit to only eye popping stuff =P

Yeah I have had it plumbed for awhile, although I may go back and re-do it to make it better. I ended up using 1/2" flexible tubing with a "Y" adapter to avoid the kinks.

How did you do yours?

clayw
03/09/2010, 11:17 AM
My return is 1/2" tubing to a barbed "Y" and then from there tubing to a 1/2" threaded barbed fiting, under the tank I ran the 1/2" from a male slip barbed fitting down to the return pump. for the drain I just made a durso and stuck that into the 1" bulkhead, which I found wasnt tight enough and leaked quite a bit but I got that fixed, then in the stand I cut a 3 inch piece of 1" pvc for the other end of the bulkhead, glued a 45 degree elbow, then a 14" piece of PVC, and one more 45 degree elbow turned down, and a 5" piece of 1" PVC so its drains directly into the first chamber in the sump. I have pictures going up in an hour or so.

Sounds like we did pretty much the same thing, the only difference I think is that I used the Spa flexible tubing for my overflow to the sump.

Here are a few more pictures. almost all the diatomes are gone now, and the tank is starting to sparkle. FTS to come later on.

I took some more pictures last night, there are still some Diotoms here and there, but the Conch's take care of them in no time. I have been stocking up to much on corals hehe.. I think I need to lay off for a bit and let them settle in, and need to figure out how I want to stock the tank fish wise.

I will try and get those pictures if I can today.

Thanks, I am still not 100% satisfied with the rock work on the left side, but it is fine for the time being.

I got the rock at Ocean Blue, On Katella. Its not macro rock but very similar, plus the pricing is just right roughly $3 per LB. It is super porous and lights so the bang for the buck is nice. Brian (Ocean Blue) still has allot of nice pieces left, some of them are HUGE!!

I really want to do like a Flame Wrasse or something, but I don't want to have to put a top on the tank.

All I really know is I want some nice and different fish.

I was also thinking of a blue spotted goby, but I am not sure if the looks outweigh the constant sand particles floating around from him...

Hmmmmm Decisions decisions.

Don't worry, I am sure Cody and I will hook you up with some sweet frags. I would say about 1/2 of the corals I have ATM have been donated by friends and fellow RC'rs

You will get there. Its just my ADD that actually prevents me from waiting for the whole tank cycle.

I used some of the micro nutrients that Cody gave me and it cycled my tank really fast.

Just let me know when your ready to start adding stuff and I will def. toss some pieces your way!

There is already (1) naked clown in the tank, but I may donate that to Cody, and replace him with a mated pair of Snowflakes.

But I did pick up a red-tail wrasse, what a beauty. I am taking a shot that it wont jump!!

Haha.

I really need to get around to taking a bunch of pics, but everything is looking great, all diotomes are gone, everything is healthy, my SPS are doing fantastic.

I just pick up a new SPS from Ali, He did not have a name for it, but it was a nice orange. I will try to get some pics soon.

Here are few shots I got. sorry for the quick response, been really busy. I got a wrasse, but his underside looked like it got chewed up or something. All the corals seem to be doing great. The birds nest I got it almost all neon green with tons of new arm extensions.

Here are some pics.

Sorry for the phone pics, I will try to get a digital camera soon.
