I'm thinking of doing a 8x4x2 . would 3/4 on all side work with 6" single top work?

What do you mean by '6" single top'? If you mean just a 6" eurobrace - not advisable. 6" euro-brace *and* a center-brace and you'd be okay provided the center-brace was 8" or so :)

Check out this place they have a calculator to figure out your build specs

GARF's build your own custom tank page (http://www.garf.org/tank/buildtank.asp)

Might double check that calc with someone like acrylics...

Example...I tried with 36", 48" and even 60" cubes all with a 30" height.
In each case, it comes back using 1/2" acrylic, and a rim/brace width of 2".

:-) according to garf...

96"x96"x30", cut list?

Bottom = 96 " x 96"
Front = 96 " x 29 1/2"
Back = 96 " x 29 1/2"
2 Sides = 29 1/2 " x 95"
Top Front/Back brace = 95 " x 2"
Top Sides brace = 95 " x 2"

Personally, I would ignore Garf and it's calculator. It's wrong just about *every* time as far as I'm concerned. I can't say it's wrong *every* time, but I've never seen it be correct..

Again, IMO :)
