How do you catch these critters to be transferred to the refugium tank?

good question! i got one as a hitchiker on a rock with mushrooms, and i rarely ever see him, the only times i have caught a glimpse of him is at night under the moon lights.. so maybe hunt for him at night?

Best way is with a pair of forceps and a chopstick (seriously). Grab them down the middle of their carapace. Seems to be the best way to get them off without hurting them. But yeah finding them is the hardest part. They're generally harmless and unless you see one eating corals, you should leave them in the main tank. Mine wiped out my bubble algae which is nice.

Set a trap for him! Take a small glass and put it in the tank, open part up, and tilted a little against a rock. And put a piece of shrimp or something at the bottom of the glass. He'll slide into the glass, but won't be able to climb back out.

They should just be hanging out around the tank, the one I had was not shy at all it would get to the highest point in the tank at the tip of one of my acans and stick its arms in the air like it was the champ.

I would try this. It worked for me in the first night when I was trying to catch a bad crab, should be the same for an emerald.
