hey how many fish can be quarintined in a 10 gallon at once ? if i buy 5 or less fish can i put them in there for 2 days or so?

If you are going to put your fish in a qt for 2 days and put them in your tank, forget about quarantining all together. Quarantining fish takes at least a month to make sure no diseases present themselves. Most would recommended six weeks I'm sure. Given the amount of time required for a legitimate observation cycle, I would not recommend 5 fish for this purpose.
You want your fish to be as calm as possible during this process. If you introduce a bully with the bunch or an infected animal, quarantining could be counter-productive. These fish won't have many hiding places to separate the crowd.
