I have a 54gal FOWLR corner tank with about 60lbs of live rock. My housing includes a large salfin tang, a med size seabae clown, med size tank raised clown, large sgt cardinal, large orange spotted goby, baby volitan lionfish, and a baby snowflake eel. I've had a reef tanks before but I down graded to FOWLR and added the lionfish and eel. They all appear to get along, but my question is... Does my selections of fish sound rather strange to be housed together?

Your lionfish and eel will outgrow your tank and your water quality will suffer and your goby and cardinal will soon be food. I am assuming you have a volitan not a dwarf.

a salfin tang has no right being in a 54 gallon tank, i bet he swims back and forth real fast all day.

Yes it is. The tang, lion, and eel all out grow your tank within a year. Not to mention The rest are on the menu for the lion, and eel when they get larger.
