My lights are heating my water up pretty good so I am going to install some fans. What kind of fans are good for this? I'm looking at pc fans but there are so many kind, what speed is recommended?

Or a thought hit me. Would a chiller be the better option?

If you can do it with $7 to $10 pc fans, why not?

I like the 12v. Vantec Stealth fans myself.

I've also had pretty good luck cooling my 40 gallon zoanthid tank with just a $10 clip-on fan.

You need a properly matched AC-DC adapter.

I went to Radio Shack and bought a power supply for mulitple 12v fans.
But you can use alot of different types of wall worts.

You will need a ac to dc converter, which can commonly be found on most small electronics. Just look for one that has enough amps and runs at 12 volts, or pick up a universal one at a electronics store.

I was having a big heating problem, I didnt want to spend the money on a chiller. I bought 2 10$ clip on fans, one for the sump and one for the tank, made a huge difference, and saved me a few hundred bucks.

Be careful of the mah on the adapters. I run 2 pc fans on one 11.5V 750mah adapter wired in series. Too many mah and your can burn out the fan quickly.

i use cheap hang on tank fans, they are connected to a controller, very simple set up, and it works well

the fans are only going to draw what they need.

the danger comes when using a adapter that isn't rated high enough and under powering them.

also note you are running your fans at half speed like that. the proper way would be to wire them in parallel, unless of coarse you are looking to run them under 6v.

some fans have a hard time starting under 7 volts.
