I was moving my orange shoulder tang from bucket to tank.I have a bucket with several holes in it so when I picked my fish up the water drain out and I can just move the fish to where ever I want.Well I decided not to use it.I have always just picked my fish up by hand and moved them from bucket tank except for the rabbitfish. So I wanted to try and get a measurement on him I was going to be quick about it.I had a buddy stand by with the tape measure ready.I went to grab the fish and everything was fine till I went to came out of the bucket. The fish split my finger open and I didnt get a measurement. My finger was bleeding every where.I had to put a band-aid on it and I dont like band-aids.I was like I ought to make a couple of tang sandwiches.I wont be grabbing another fish lol.Now I see why they call it a surgeonfish

Yup. I've also seen angels draw blood when handled using their jaw spines. The more you look at the varieties of fish, the more your realize they all take personal defence quite seriously.

I knew what they was capable of doing but just think it would happen to me.I had handle several tangs before by hand just none that big.

I saw firsthand what their scalpels will do and it is very very disturbing. My 12" blochii nearly cut a 9" lietenant tang in half.

Wow.I think if it wasnt at an angle I would need a stich or 2.I was talking to les and he said he had a friend of his went diving and get hit by a large naso and had to get 15 stiches.

Even a small tang could inflict alot of pain. My 2 inch Powderblue tang attack my 5 inch whitecheek Tang. I could not believe the PBT put deep gashes all over the whitecheek within 10 seconds. Had to separate them in separate Q tanks, before my whitecheek became history. I never use my hands to handle fish.

Don't you just love it when the salt water gets in that open wound...

squeeze the wound together and super glue it shut, unless if it's too wide to do so

Tangs are not aggressive in the wild, so it is highly likely your friend did something he should not have done.

Actually superglue works well for this purpose.

That was superglues original use and what it was designed for. Thats why it bonds skin so quickly.

DISINFECT!!!!! Too many people are cavalier about wounds and saltwater aquariums. Once you get Marine tb, and need to have a section of tissue removed, you'll be very careful. Please disinfect, and be careful.
