30 GAL 24 x 24 x 12 tank with a 12 GAL sump @ 3 ft head.

I want something that is quiet and keeps the water level relatively high in the overflow. What GPH is proper for my tank? Any particular brands that are better than another?

Here are a couple pumps i've been looking at.

Mag-Drive Supreme 5 (500 GPH)
QuietOne 2200 (570 GPH)
Mag-Drive Supreme 7 (700 GPH)

How big is the plumbing in your overflow? As this is a major factor. Although, I would recommend the QO out of all those anyways because it is DEAD silent and very energy efficient compared to mags. I switched out for a QO3000 in place of a Mag 12 and it was the best choice ever! Wiz ;)

the holes in the tank for the bulkheads are about 1", so I guess the tubing is 1/2"? it's the green soft tubing, not PVC. I didn't want to bother with hard plumbing since the run is so short.

I would go with the Eheim or Tunze return pumps.

Out of the list you provided, I would go with the mag 5 or the quiet one. I've used both mag drive and quiet one pumps, and the quiet ones are definitely quieter and they use less electricity.
