I just got a price quote from my LFS for a 36" X 36" X 14" rimless tank by Leemar for 575$. I was just wondering if this is a good price, and how hard would it be to build a stand for it.. or would it be better if I just get one custom made

Depends on how much money you want to spend. If you want to build one it will be cheaper but if you want to spend a bit more and use someone elses time then have one made. If you can wait until tomorrow I can find out the pricing on the tank at my lfs and let you know if it's a good deal (one of the percs of working there!)

that'd be awesome Ali, Btw you wouldnt happen to work at lfs in Los Angeles would you? (A member on my local forum mentioned you).

Glasscages price are definately attractive but I heard too many horror stories about broken tank... and some of the stories are of glasscages. If by chance even my 5G break, I'll be forced out of the hobby for good.. let alone a 70G+ tank =(

I'm actually rethinking the height.. 14" might be too short for my liking. Maybe 16 or 18"

Nope in Florida. I work for a larger lfs and we do a bigger volume than most so we get good discounts on a lot of stuff so if anyone has questions I can find stuff out like that but obviously I don't want to endorse or take custom from the store but I can give you an idea on the price to aim for so you can save some coin!

I like the tanks shallow. I was thinking of a 12" tank myself

gotcha, 12" seem too shallow for my liking since I like SPS and high clift

$575 is a lot for a tank this size, IMO.

Just picked up a 48x24x20 outta Toronto for $150 (CAN!). Someone ordered and never picked it up. $575 seems a little steep for a 36x36x12. Should be ~$400-450 (IME).

As of two years ago, I could get a 60 gal AGA with rim for about $80, new, in LA area.

Yea I suppose with the sps you really limit the growth but I think if I were to do it I think I would be going for softies and lps. I love the idea of the shallow rimless tanks!
