I know the difference between a skimmer and fuge, just wanted to see if other BC or nano people are using skimmers in thier reef tank. So far i have no issues. I have 29 lbs of Live Rock and 30 lbs of live sand, Live Rock in chamber 2. I do a weekly 20% waterchange. Only add elements if needed.

I dont want to spend extra money if i dont have to, but would be willing to if nessessary.

I thought about a Fuge for the 2nd chamber but again not sure if it is nessessary. The other details of my tank are in my sig.

I really dont want this to turn into a fight with Fuge Vs Skimmer as we are all tired of that one and plenty of other threads for that.

Just want to get a idea if others have or have not used them. Plain and simple.

thanks

i have 2nd chamber with media basket, (filter floss, purigen and chem-pure) and fuge with cheato. i do weekly 4 gallon water change. i see no evidence a skimmer is needed provided i keep up with the WC. i do believe the media basket/fuge are a big help.

good luck

cost wise i am thinking of the fuge basket with light total cost $40.00 vs skimmer = 150 or so.

my readings are all very good i have a big clean up crew and i think that really helps as well, I do like to keep the tank as natrual as i can. If i do put the basket in i will have to recut my LR to fit in it. I use LR in chamber 2 as well.

Have to give it a bit more thought.

I would recommend removing the live rock from your rear chamber. It can lead to nitrates and really isn't doing much. Use the rock in your display for the biofiltration.

+1 no live rock rubble in chamber 2. will eventually lead to the same problem as bioballs.

Ya I got that advice from my LFS (Go figure) I agree with both of you llc and fstar25, I am going to remove that rock and buy the fuge basket with the media chamber. I love going a natural as i can ohh along with the light. Got paid today YAHOO..

Thanks all

tell me how this would be,

Currently i put any media i need in chamber 1 along with my heater i just put the carbon or phosban in a pantyhose and put there. Then i was thinking putting 2 fuge baskets in the second chamber and leaving chamber 3 empty.

Will 2 fuge baskets fit in chamber 2, this way i can get more macroalge in there? Do i really need a media basket or goes my meathod of pantyhose inchamber 1 work just the same. Money is pretty tight right now. Later on i might get a media basket, but for now i am looking at trying to get by with out one.

Thoughs?

I removed my bioballs and replaced with live rock, what should I put there instead?

I am going to change mine to a fuge basket and a media basket, and then put purigen on one rack, filter floss on the other and leave the others for later.
