Help! can anyone identify this?

I found this on one of my live rocks from my LFS - Yes, the same rock that came with the Majano,some of the coraline eating starfish (little blue ones?) and a few other goodies.

It looks like a centipede cocoon but its kind-of spikey?

Looks like a sponge, is it soft or hard?

Its soft. I am willing to check it out but was not sure what the heck it was. lol
