I'm thinking of buying this skimmer. Anyone have one in use ?
what other skimmers are great external skimmers? Noise is not an issue .

What size tank are you looking for?

300 gallons. I already have the tank in service. I'm just changing skimmers.

I've never heard anyone complain about their Warner-Marine skimmer.... From what I've seen they're exceptionally well built and perform good.
Euro-Reef makes good external skimmers such as this: http://www.aquacave.com/euro-reef-rc250-recirculatingbr-protein-skimmer-wpump-1330.html
Reef-Flo's are good:

Or this Super Reef Octopus:

Hard to give suggestions without a size requirement, type skimmer (NW/Becket), and price.
