If you want to actually know what the calculator is doing (ignore this if it is too nerdy):

Step 1: Find the volume in cubic inches...

24" x 24" x 20" = 11520 in^3 (cubic inches)

Step 2: Convert volume from cubic inches to cubic feet...

There are 1728 cubic inches in 1 cubic foot, so

11520 divided by 1728 equals 6.67 cubic feet.

Step 3: Convert volume from cubic feet to gallons...

There are 7.48 gallons in a cubic foot, so

6.67 multiplied by 7.48 equals 49.9 gallons.

Dun Properly, Actually, there are 231 cubic inches in one gallon so you can skip step 2.

SO: All measurements in inches:

L*W*H/231 = Gallons.

Yeah, but that is just how my brain computes it. I think of things in cubic feet and go from there. Your way is certainly quicker and easier.

Length X widthX height divided by 231 in inches
