zooplankton smelling bad

does anyone know if my zoo plankton-s from brigthwell aquatics is suppose to have a rancid smell? i have noticed my nitrates increasing a little, and i was wondering if this might be the culprit.

My DT smells like rotten eggs and it dosent hurt anything.

i had some that smelled like really bad skimmate, and it worked fine
