Just got a deal on this fish 6 inches for $100. The guy said it was a very rare tang in the hobby. Color looks awesome. does anyone have any experience with this fish? and is it really that rare? The guy said i can easily sell it for $300.

That fish in the pic is likely 16" or so (ie- VERY large). I hope you have a HUGE tank.

Nope, I'd like to have one. The Marine Center (online store) adverts them for 200-250$ at the 6" size. Sounds like you got a sweet deal, If as Jmaney wrote, you've got the space.

I agree. That doesn't look like a 6" bariene. It looks much larger. I would guess it's not a picture of the actual fish?

I don't think they are THAT rare. They are expensive though. Live Aquaria has one for sale right now.

i have an 8 inch and for a tang he is a pretty good citizen (300 gallon tank). Great fish, but is not out in the open as much as the Naso. Mine can be hand fed and make sure you have plenty of Nori.

I have one that's about 4" and its a great fish. I paid $75 from a local reefer. He holds his own very well. I had an ick out break a while back and he was the only fish that didn't have any on him. I hope you have a XL tank. Mine is out in the open all the time in my 230gal. As for it being a rare fish, I haven't seen any at the LFS. I think $100 was more than fair for a fish that size.Mine doesn't have the color that one does. I would have bought it.

We already have one, it's called the TANG POLICE. ;) You get a special hat and everything. You have to hang out in the corner and get stuff thrown at you though. Let me know if you wanna sign up. :spin1:

LOL joined! Although I may be a target to some... some people are worried about my Mata tang out growing my 210gal?! And I thought 210 would be big enough for just about any tang!

Wrong. Haha.

That tang pictured is definitely not 6-8 inches. Try 10-12 plus some.

Yeah, the mata will outgrow your tank. And a 210 isn't big enough for quite a few tangs. Off the top of my head, vlamingii, naso, unicorn, and maybe adult sohals, sailfins...

I have one that is not yet as colorful as yours that I have had for 8 months or so and is approx 4 inches. It has done well and eats whatever I put in the tank. Mine is very peaceful.

+1

Not exactly rare, but not a common fish at the LFS either. Live Aquaria has them In Stock from time to time!

In any case, sweet deal for a very beautiful speciman! GL with the Tang!
