So here is a question, Is it ok for my carpet to eat a gray, sand sifting star? The star wandered a little to close and the carpet grabbed it. Is it ok? My fear is the star will still be alive in the carpets stomach and tear it up. Any one have any history of this? :sad2:

I'm sure the stinging cells of the carpet killed the star before it was digested. They eat things that get to close, its what they do.

Last night at 9:30pm when I went to bed, it was still trying to eat it.
This morning, looked like the carpet won. No star left langing out. All gone. Carpet looks good today. Opening back up. Probly wont have to feed it for a month now!

This is an educated guess on my part.

I am going to say that the "carpet" is a Haddoni, since they are sand dwellers, and a sand sifting star stays in the sandbed -- most of the time, until they eat the sand bed clean and have to travel out of it in an attempt to find food.

It seems to be doing well. These are the best pics. we could get, it happened soo fast. The star disappeared before we knew it.

Its had to tell in the last pic, but the carpet is about 10" across and the star is........well, was a good 5" or so.

yeah, i have a red one and my linkia star fell in the other day, it was rough. last week i also noticed i was missing my blue hippo and a couple chromis, not sure if it was the carpet or not as it seems to be a lot of coincidence they all went missing last week

I wouldnt wait a month to feed it again, I wouldn't think there is much nutrition to a starfish, IMO

Update: He is going very well. No concerns anymore I think at this point. I wasnt sure if there was any toxins or contaminates in the star that would hit him later on down the road. He is looking very nice. I make my own fish food, so the clown makes sure his carpet gets a nice piece of shrimp or krill almost every day!
