Hi everyone. I'm a long time reader, first time poster. With all of the valuable information on this wonderful site, I have always been able to find the answers to my questions without having to ask.
Now I have decided to get some opinions on my current plans of moving everything from my 75 gallon reef, into a 90 gallon tank.
I will be using the same stand, just switching everything from one tank to another. The 75 gallon has been up and running successfully for a year and half.
Here is my plan.
I'd like to reuse my sand bed, add new saltwater and put all of the live rock in the tank and aquascape. Before I do that, I plan on strenghtening the stand with 2x4's for piece of mind. While I'm doing all of this, the live stock will sit in a 40 gallon long with the original tank water. I will have a heater and protein skimmer running. Then I will acclimate everything(still trying to figure out the best way to do this). I know to get the temp and salinity the same, but please give me your input. I assume some die off of the live rock will occur. I'm kind of paranoid about doing all of this. Do you think my tank will cycle?
For equipment i have a 30 gallon sump with a euroreef cs 8-2, ca2200 return pump, current outer orbit metal halides (2) 150w halides, (2) 130w PC, 3 Koralia 2's, auto top off with ro/di.
My livestock consists of; a 3'' blue tang, 2'' clown fish, 2'' yellow tang, cleaner shrimp, linkia star, frogspawn, open brain, maze brain, trumpets, lobo's, duncans, torch, galaxia, acans monti caps, birdsnest, finger leather, mushrooms, zoa's, a clam etc. I have a very small clean up crew of maybe 6 hermits and a couple snails. I would say around 80 pounds of live rock. 2'' sand bed.
As far as dosing, I just keep up with 15% weekly water changes and dose 2 part every other day.
Please tell me of any ideas you may have or any flaws that you may see. I'm very open to constructive criticism. One thing I would love to do, but have yet to make my mind up, is to have a rock lift. I know I'm pushing it with the lighting I have so having the reef a bit closer to the light wouldn't hurt in addition to the added flow and keeping the rocks off of the sand bed. Thanks in advance!!
