I am looking to buy a 40B to replace my 65g...my current tank is just too deep and the 40g is the same footprint, just more shallow. Anyway, I found this on CL...

The hole is drilled in the lower corner of the tank. Is there a way to make this work with a sump? All I can imagine is all the water on the floor!

You can plug it, either with a square of glass siliconed to the inside, or a bulkhead with a plug in it. You can also use it with a sump, if you put an elbow on it and run up a standpipe. The problem is, you have no secondary overflow for emergency, or overflow box for that matter. If it was me, I would patch it with glass, and then figure out a proper overflow/sump setup that might involve drilling elsewhere. It looks like you could easily hide it with sand or rock.

The other problem is, they are $109 here at Petco brand new.

"Includes bulkhead and overflow"

It is just a tank that has been drilled on the end and not the bottom or back. If you don't want it in that spot buy a new 40g.

I got mine new cheaper than that one. No use trying to make a silk purse from a sow's ear.

Thanks for the info! I think I will go with new and do it my way.

I would be leary of this because it is a breeder tank. You are not really supposed to fill a breeder tank with water. I know I know there are a ton of people who do it, but now you add a hole into already thinner that it should be glass. Like kimber says for 110 I would just have a new one built.

Do you mean a reptile tank? A 40 breeder just denotes a size - not a glass thickness.
