Also posted this on reef discustion sorry,
Just planning on going to my LFS when I get off work(1hour) so need an answer.

I have a 14gal biocube completly stock no mods done, I have 2 clowns and an antena goby for fish, and zoos, differnt shrooms, xenia, frogspawn, toadstool, candycane coral for corals and I am curious if I can add a powerhead or somthing to increase flow and stimulate more growth and natural flitration. Will it be a positive addition to my tank or nagitive addition?

Also wha would be a good powerhead to add.
Thanks for all the help
-matt

I would just go w/ a K1. Its not that much bigger nor costlier.

I disagree. I have both and think the K-nano is a much better fit. Upgrade your stock pump to a MJ1200 and add a K-nano. You'll have plenty of flow. The K1 is just too bulky IMO. You may end up with a sand storm with it.

I had that setup in my BC14, but had a hydor flow on the return's outlet. It was great.

Be careful though, I found that a MJ1200 was simply too much when replacing the stock pump, had to scale it back to a MJ900. I second the Koralia Nano though, that with an MJ900-1200 is a good amount of flow for one of these tanks.

Unless you're keeping sps, a nano should be perfect. I run the nano and stock pump and have more than enough flow, you'll find that flow direction will shift your sand around everytime you move it (that is if you have a sandbed)...any extra flow is beneficial--even the turbid lagoons have more flow than our reefs can supply or duplicate--at least a different type of flow...

The more flow the better as long as you are not blowing sand around. I still have the stock pump and I added an aquaclear 300 it hangs perfectly over the vents on the right side and still lets water flow thru.

I would not use the mj1200, way too much heat, the mj900 is much better IMO

i run the mj 1200 and k nano in my 29 and it is plenty of flow. i have not had the heat problem everyone complains about in the mj1200 but in a 14 gallon you might. IMHO a k1 would be a lot of flow for your tank. good luck!

Wow, we have the same exact tank setup, even down to the fish. 2x Clowns and Antenna Goby. Even the corals. I am just worried the flow will toss around the xenia and frogspawn. I know the zoanthids can handle a lot of flow, its the others im worried about.

Let me know how yours turns out, im gonna purchase a koralia nano tonight and hopefully it should be good to go.

I have a K1 in my tank, with stock pump, I think it's a good amount of flow. I keep a good amount of SPS, LPS, and Zoas. All my corals seem happy. My sand doesn't really blow around at all.

Me <--:hammer:

I'm afraid I have to eat crow on this one :blown:

After all my talk of the K nano being enough for the 29G biocube with a MJ1200 I actually bit the bullet and bought a K1 tonight. Added it to the tank and moved the K nano. Yup, running both :o

It turns out my earlier trouble were with the fact that I was trying to add another MJ1200 as a powerhead to the tank and the way the nano disperses the flow makes it work vs. the MJ1200 just blasting out a stream.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :hmm1: I apologize for my previous posts of K nano is enough. K1 + Knano +MJ1200(return) is awesome. and I'm sure even more would be even better.

(Still think for a 14G K nano would be plenty)

I'm using a Hydor Pico Evolution 1200... Same amount of flow as the MJ1200, but only 8.5W...

Go with the K Nano... Or if you really want that much flow, look into the new K Evo 425... It's the same size as the Nano, but it's pushing the same amount as the K1...

I went with a Pico Evolution 1200 and a Koralia Evolution 240 and I think it's plenty of flow...

see my thread here http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1823838 for the nearly same question. I have a BC29 and tried the nano, k1, k2, the new evo 425 and evo 750 all with the return pump. my results are on that thread. This might help you.
