I'm tired of using the felt socks that catch everything and clog up so fast, and would like to utilize something that catches mainly larger particles. I know I've seen them in use before, they're a mesh-like material, but cannot source them from my "normal" online suppliers. Anyone know where to find something like this? Feel free to PM if necessary, thanks!

Mcmaster Carr has great prices on them. I just picked up a dozen 10 micron 7" rigned socks for around $3.00 each. They call them filter bags. They had better prices on the 200 micron socks which I had previously bought in bulk from another source. Here is a link (http://www.mcmaster.com/#filter-bags/=6fhlur). Select filter bags from the top menu in the link I just provided. Then select page 382 if I am not mistaken..

Thanks guys.

I would be all over that for those prices slief, but they only offer Nylon bags with steel galvanized retaining ring. They offer all the other kinds with a plastic ring, not sure why they wouldn't offer the nylon with a plastic ring too?

They Polyester ones on page 381 should work fine.

I've been using the gutter guard socks, that they sell in home depot. I have no problem with. I forgot how much it comes with, but it's enough to make like 10 of these socks. Check the plumbing section and look for something call gutter guard socks or something to that..

I just got one last week from bulkreefsupply just to try it out, and I like it better than the felt for the exact reasons you mentioned. I got the one with the plastic 7" rinch which fits right into the filter sock holder in my sump.
